Something on the Tree

Lookie here lookie here

WHAT!!! ARE THOES!!!!

MOOOMMYYY

Momy: THOES would be a WoodPeckers. Pileated Woodpeckers to be exact. Nearly as large as a crow, the Pileated Woodpecker is the largest woodpecker in most of North America.

Cool Facts

•The Pileated Woodpecker digs characteristically rectangular holes in trees to find ants. These excavations can be so broad and deep that they can cause small trees to break in half.

•A Pileated Woodpecker pair stays together on its territory all year round. It will defend the territory in all seasons, but will tolerate floaters during the winter.

•The feeding excavations of a Pileated Woodpecker are so extensive that they often attract other birds. Other woodpeckers, as well as House Wrens, may come and feed there.

Pileated Woodpecker populations declined greatly with the clearing of the eastern forests. The species rebounded in the middle 20th century, and has been increasing slowly but steadily in most of its range. Only in Arkansas do numbers seem to be going down.

•No other living North American woodpecker is large and black with a red crest.

There were 2 Pileated Woodpeckers on the tree that day. Sadly I could not get a picture with both of them in it. They were pecking up the tree in a circular motion. Very pretty to watch and hear. The cats were more than amused and/or scared of them. Im not really sure.

Bad Momy!

ButterBean here - How are all of my Friends today?

Im ok ... I think  ... a little mad a Momy but ... who could balme me

Bad things Momy has done lately

1. Put Flea Goo on all of us
2. Cut my claws - I really hate that
3. Vaccumed EVERY DAY - since its gotten warmer
4. Took my food bowls for a whole day - she washed them!
5. Washed my favorite towel

What has your Momy or Dady done bad lately???

This is me hiding so that maybe - just maybe she wont get me and cut my claws. I really dont like my claws cut, you see I have extra claws that grow from the toe pads, Momy says she has to cut them all or it will be bad for me. I just really dont like it, even though I pull at them and sometimes pull them out and make my toe really sore.

Momy won this battle ... this time

Notes from Mama and Say hello to Henry

Mama Cat would like to thank everyone - she hopes that you will support your Mama Cat by having Mama cat Mondays when you can!
Please note that Mama Cat helps in the garden by fertilizing it - shes very good at that and enjoys it more than the box inside.
Planting will begin today provided it is not raining this evening.

Now - we would like you to meet Henry - he is a guest in the Spring and sometimes in the Fall.

We believe Henry is a Male - Eastern Painted Turtle

We made sure Henry was safe and had plenty to eat and sent him on his way.

Update on Charlie and other good things

UPDATE ON CHARLIE: Momy asked about Charlie and if he was ok after arriving to his rescue and here is what she was told:

"Thanks again for driving. Heidi - receiving rescue- said Charlie was already starting to become a little more comfortable. He was playing with her dogs in the fenced yard on Sunday afternoon and was approaching her and letting her pet him. He'll be going to a foster home soon, with a couple who are experienced in working with skittish dogs."

This made Momy happy! :)

Other Good Things:

Tummys are good

So are NAPS and comfy blankies

Gone to the Dogs

In Momy's spare time she drives legs for dog runs through Virginia. On Saturday she did one such trip. Check out the cuties she transported ...

This is Timothy
He is 8 months old
A Golden/Hound Mix is what they called him

So pretty and EXTREMELY sweet
He added to the transport just a few hours before

Such pretty eyes

This next one is Charlie and here is his story he too is 8 months old and is a Rottie mix

Charlie was neutered this week. He doesn't have any problems. Just letting you know. He also is skiddish but warms up quick with some TLC. He was dumped out in a not so good neighborhood and everyone was cruel to him. It took 2 weeks for one neighbor (a very good woman) to get him to let her pet him. She had him for a month and worked with him. He is really wonderful and I hope you all enjoy him as much as we have here at the house. He loves small to medium dogs (he is a Romeo), but very leary of big loud ones.

Momy was in LOVE with Charlie before she met him but more so after she met him

He laid in the floorboard most of the way

He was scairt of eveything - specially the camera so pictures had to be taken through the window

What a handsome pup

There were 2 other doggies on the transport but another driver had them.
One needed to be crated and Momy couldnet get a big crate in her car.
But they got to where they needed to go so its OK
