Momy had a hard week this week with being sick and Scotchy's paw .... then today GrandMaw called her at work to say one of the barn kitties was sick .... Momy left work early and took Gracie to the vet she was well at all. Her kidneys were failing.
There are several kitties that Momy takes care of, she has cought them and had then spayed or neutered and let them live their lives catching mousies and doing cat things. Gracie has been around GrandMaw and PawPaws house since Momy was in high school. Gracie was just a wee lil baby when Momy found her.
Gracie was at least 12 - she weighed only 5 pounds. This was only the second or 3rd time Momy had ever touched her, but she was so sick - Gracie went over the bridge just before 5 this afternoon.
While she was not a loving and friendly kitty she was VERY pretty - Momy whishes she had some pictures of her.
About 6 weeks ago the same thing happed to Marlea - she was 16 years old as far as Momy can remember. However, Marlea died on her own while in the vets care - there was nothing they could do for her.
A word from Momy:
Its hard to have a pet put to sleep - even a barn kitty that you never really touched. Its hard to be strong and say thoes words and sign the paper that the state requires. But sometimes you have to do it. And when you do you have to remember that you love them that much that you wont make them suffer.
I am fortunate that I live in an area and have the land to have many animals - but with that fortune come heartbreak that you loose some - I am greatful that I do know what happened to these 2 special kitties, lots of times outside cats just go off an die and you never know. I perfer to have a box to bury.
With this said - hug your kitty or your doggie tonight and tell them they are special because you can loose them so fast.
Purrs to you all!

It's nice that even a barn kitty has someone to care enough to cry over her. So many don't. You must have a soft heart.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the loss of your two kitties. It is the kindest thing to do, but it still breaks your heart when you have to make that final trip to the vets.
ReplyDeleteWe are so sorry to hear about your kitties. Tell Momy she has kind soul and a good heart. We send her purrs.
ReplyDeleteMy sisters and I send you loving purrs and we are so very sorry to hear the sad news.
ReplyDeleteWe are sorry to hear that Gracie had to go to the Bridge. Marlea would have been there waiting for her.She knows you cared for her and that you made the most difficult decision because you didn't want her to suffer. We send comforting purrs.
ReplyDeleteWe are so sorry for your loss of two special babies. We get attached to the barn kitties even if we can not get close to them. We know how sad it is when one just disappears.
ReplyDeleteYou have to remember how kind it is to let them go while they still have dignity...that is what I feel in my heart...
ReplyDeleteI am so very sorry that your two cats past away. It's never an easy thing but it is our job as their Mom's to do the right thing for them.

ReplyDeleteWe're sorry to hear about Gracie...your momy did the best she could for her...purrs to all of you...
ReplyDeleteWe are all sorry to hear about Gracie. She may not have been all warm and purry--yet she knew you liked her. I bet sometime when you sit and look out a window, you'll hear a purr and feel a warmth....and then you smile...

We are so sorry for your loss. Choosing to help a kitty over the Bridge when they are failing really is the kindest last gesture. We're sure she and Marlea are playing together at the Bridge. (((hugs)))
ReplyDeleteI am sorry for your loss. We who love cats go through some heartbreaking times, but you are right sometimes we have to be strong and make the decision to have them put to sleep. Cats will suffer in silence many times. You did the kindest thing, even though hard to do.
ReplyDeleteThree weeks ago my Mama Kitty disappeared after living in my back yard mostly on the shelf outside my kitchen window for between 16 and 17 years. She was abandoned when she was young. She never learned to trust people other than my husband and I. She didn't want to be held and was scared to be inside the house. I wish I knew what happened to her, even if it was something bad I wish I knew. It seems so sad to not see her through my kitchen window after so many years of her being there every day.

We are very sorry to hear about Gracie and also Marlea. It is never easy to have to decide to put a furry family member to sleep or not.
ReplyDeleteWe are so saddened to hear of your loss of your two barn kitties. It IS so hard to have to do, but doing it is for them. Mom knows exactly how you feel as the day she had helped Scooter(RIP) cross thee bridge, it was not expected. Mom had a feeling and it became a reality at the vets office. We are sending you all gentle, comforting hugs and purrs today.
